Planning a family camping holiday can be a daunting task. The goal is to get away from the hustle and bustle of home, but the campsite still needs to offer the kind of amenities that you need and want. The last thing busy parents want to contend with on their mini-break is kids complaining of boredom because the campsite you picked isn’t ideal. To ensure the holiday is a success and enjoyed by all, here are some of the things to look for in a family-friendly campsite in the UK.

Does the Campsite Offer Swimming?

One of the best ways to keep kids busy at the campsite is swimming. There’s something about kids and swimming that just go hand-in-hand. Whether the campsite is located on a small lake or has a swimming pool, this is well worth investigating.

Are There Any Restaurants Nearby?

Although the goal may be to cook your meals on the campfire, it’s also important to be realistic. Keeping the kids happy could mean a meal or two at a nearby restaurant. Some campsites have on-site restaurants and those located near small towns and villages will offer a selection of dining options.

How Much Privacy Does Your Site Get?

Kids aren’t exactly known for being quiet, so parents may want to look for a campsite that offers plenty of space between tents. You won’t be as worried about the noise, and it also means you’re not going to hear a bunch of noise from other sites, potentially disturbing everyone’s sleep.

Are There Any Kids-Facilities On the Grounds?

As you start to look into the various campsites, you’ll find that some are just basic in that you are assigned a site and nothing more, whereas others have more of a resort-like vibe with many on-site amenities. Some will even have activities and kids-friendly facilities such as a splash pad or water area, a playground, shops, water activities (kayaking, snorkeling, canoeing, etc.), wildlife viewing areas, free Wi-Fi for streaming kids’ movies and shows, and more.

Is the Campsite Pet Friendly?

It may not be just the kids that you need to worry about, perhaps you’re also taking the family dog. If that’s the case, be sure to look for campsites that specifically state they are pet-friendly.

Bring the Campsite Vibe Home to Your Back Garden

If the family enjoyed their camping experience and is sad to see the holiday end, why not use camping as inspiration in your back garden? You can bring similar elements into your garden by focusing on natural greenery, having a bird feeding station to attract wildlife, and even pitching your tent and having a family camping night.

You can take the holiday camping vibe one step further and even buy a small swimming pool or paddling pool to keep the kids entertained. It’ll be just like what you may have experienced on the lake or pond at your campsite.

Looking for a family-friendly campsite ensures that everyone has a great time and fabulous memories are made.
