How To Get Around London As A Tourist
Use the London Underground (the Tube) for speed, and buses for views above ground. The Tube runs from around 5 a.m. to midnight on most lines, with Night Tube services on some lines on Fridays and Saturdays. A contactless payment card or Oyster card caps daily fares; touch in and out on the yellow readers. Black cabs can be hailed on the street or found at ranks, and charge a metered fare based on time and distance. Buses accept contactless or Oyster but not cash; a single fare is capped at a lower daily limit than the Tube. Santander Cycles (the “Boris Bikes”) have docking stations across central London; hire costs £1.65 for a 30-minute ride, with longer rides incurring additional fees. River buses run along the Thames, with routes from Westminster to Greenwich and beyond. Walking is often the quickest way between nearby landmarks in Zone 1.
How Long Should A Trip To London Be
A first-time visitor should plan for at least four full days to see the main sights without rushing. This allows time for the Tower of London, the British Museum, the Houses of Parliament, and a day trip to Windsor or Greenwich. If you want to explore neighbourhoods like Notting Hill, Covent Garden, and Shoreditch, add another two days. For a trip that includes both London and other parts of England, a week to ten days is recommended. How To Get A Hogsmeade Mug Souvenir
You can buy an official Hogsmeade mug at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, or at the Harry Potter Shop at Platform 9¾ in King’s Cross station. The studio tour mug costs around £10 and is only available on-site or from the online shop. The Hogsmeade mug from the King’s Cross shop is a ceramic pint glass with the village name and a snowy design. Both are official merchandise; check the studio tour website for current stock and opening hours. If you visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando or Hollywood, the mug there is a different design and sold in the park’s Hogsmeade area.
