What To Know Before You Go To Delhi
Delhi is home to numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and Humayun’s Tomb. The city has been ruled by several dynasties, each leaving its own imprint on the landscape, and you can see that history in its magnificent forts and palaces. The city combines a rich historical heritage with a fast-paced modern lifestyle, and its well-connected transportation system makes it easy to reach different areas. For practical planning, check what to wear in India as a tourist before you pack.
What To Do In Delhi In 3 Days
This three-day itinerary covers Old Delhi’s narrow lanes, New Delhi’s architectural marvels, and the city’s cultural gems. On day one, explore the lanes of Chandni Chowk, visit the Red Fort, and sample street food. Day two focuses on New Delhi: Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar, and the India Gate area. Day three leaves room for markets like Connaught Place or Dilli Haat, plus a visit to a historic site you may have missed, such as the Lotus Temple or Purana Qila. The itinerary balances historical sites, street life, and dining options across different budgets.
Where Should I Go For A 1-Day Trip Near Delhi
For a one-day trip from Delhi, the most popular destination is Agra, home to the Taj Mahal. It is about a three-hour drive or a two-hour train ride from Delhi. You can take the Kerala backwaters ferry from Alleppey to other destinations, but for this trip you will instead travel by road or rail to Agra. The Taj Mahal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the day trip allows you to see the monument and return to Delhi in the evening. Other options within a similar distance include Jaipur for its palaces and forts, or the temple town of Mathura, but Agra remains the most common choice for a single day.
