How To Obtain A Visa For Nepal With My Travel Document
You can get a tourist visa for Nepal on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport or at land border crossings, provided your travel document is valid for at least six months. The visa types are 15 days (US$30), 30 days (US$50), and 90 days (US$125). Fill out the arrival form, submit two passport-sized photos, pay the fee in cash (USD, EUR, or GBP accepted), and receive your visa at the immigration counter. For extensions, visit the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu; the fee is US$3 per day for up to 15 days, plus a processing fee. Multiple-entry visas are also available. Check current fees before traveling, as rates can change.
Why We Got Nepal Travel Insurance
We bought travel insurance for Nepal because trekking at altitude and remote trails carry real risks. A helicopter evacuation from the Annapurna region can cost thousands of dollars, and standard health insurance rarely covers it. Our policy covered emergency evacuation, trip cancellation, and lost baggage. If you plan to hike, check that your insurance explicitly includes high-altitude trekking up to 5,000 meters. Many providers offer Nepal-specific plans; compare coverage for helicopter rescue and medical repatriation. See a guide to hiking the Annapurna circuit trek and hiking and the outdoors in Nepal for trail conditions and safety tips.
Practical Tips For Nepal
Carry cash in Nepali rupees for small purchases, as cards are not accepted in remote areas. ATMs are common in Kathmandu and Pokhara but may charge high fees. For trekking, pack layers: temperatures range from 25°C in the lowlands to below freezing at high passes. The best trekking seasons are March–May and September–November. Drink bottled or purified water to avoid stomach issues. For city navigation, use offline maps or hire a local guide. For border crossings, know which countries border Nepal to plan overland entry.
