The Ultimate Guide To Gorilla Trekking In Uganda
Uganda is home to over half of the world's population of endangered mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking here offers a chance to observe these creatures in their natural habitat while contributing to conservation efforts. Permits are required and must be booked in advance; they cost $700 per person for foreign non-residents (as of 2024). Treks take place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, with groups limited to eight visitors per habituated family. The trek can last from one to several hours depending on the gorillas’ location, and you are allowed one hour with the family once found. The article also covers hidden insights of Uganda's Kibale forest chimpanzee research, where habituated chimpanzee groups can be tracked in Kibale National Park.
Curious Facts About Uganda's Murchison Falls Nile River Safari Boats
Murchison Falls is where the Nile River explodes through a narrow gorge. A Nile River safari boat takes you along the river, where you can spot elephants, hippos, and crocodiles from the water. The boat ride gets you up close to the base of the falls, offering a perspective you cannot get from land. The standard boat trip runs from the Paraa jetty to the base of the falls, a distance of about 13 kilometres (8 miles) upstream, and typically takes two to three hours. Boats depart twice daily, usually at 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, though schedules vary by season. The park is also one of the few places where you can see curious facts about Uganda's tree climbing lions, which are occasionally spotted resting in fig trees along the Nile delta.
